Chimpanzees share about 98.7% of their DNA with humans, making them our closest relatives. Unlike mountain gorillas, chimps are more active and social, often seen swinging through trees, grooming each other, and communicating using vocalizations. Uganda is home to over 5,000 chimpanzees, with some of the best tracking locations including Kibale National Park, Budongo Forest, Kyambura Gorge, and Kalinzu Forest.
Gorilla Tracking
Gorilla tracking is one of the most thrilling wildlife experiences in the world. Deep in the heart of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda, tourists embark on an adventure to observe the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This activity not only provides an unforgettable encounter with these majestic primates but also contributes to conservation efforts and local community development.
The journey begins early in the morning at the park headquarters, where visitors receive a briefing from experienced guides. Groups of up to eight people are assigned to a specific gorilla family before heading into the dense rainforest. The trek can take anywhere from two to eight hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Since gorillas are constantly on the move, trekking requires patience and endurance. However, the moment trekkers finally come face-to-face with a gorilla family, all the fatigue fades away. Watching these intelligent creatures interact—playing, feeding, and grooming each other—creates a deep connection between humans .
